moxie_man: What kind of crack are they smoking?

This may only be of interest to Mainahs.

The Department of Transportation at the Augusta City Council meeting last night proposed putting in up to 5 additional rotaries (traffic circles) in Augusta. Major rant ahead because DOT is Smoking CrackCollapse )

tengupriestess: PortCon 08?

So it recently came to my attention that PortCon 08 is being held at the Eastland Park Hotel.

Not to rain on anyone's cosplay but the staff at the Eastland are a bunch of bigots; I was treated harshly, humiliated and then fired illegally all after my boss found out that I'm Wiccan.

Just thought you all should know who you're giving your money to.

One of the evils of McCarthyism is denying someone a living because of what they believe, please urge Julie to hold it somewhere else!

I lived in Portland for 3 years.

moxie_man: Car Smash Fundraiser on 7/4 in Winslow

Cross-posted to: anothermaine, mainecommunity, and theothermaine

Posted on behalf of Boy Scout Troop 433 of Winslow:

What: Benefit Car Smash Fundraiser!
Where: Winslow VIP Parking Lot, corner of Bay St. and Halifax St., across from Fort Halifax Park.
When: July 4 after the parade (roughly noontime) until 9pm
Benefit for: Boy Scout Troop 433 to send scouts to summer camp.

Come smash the scoutmaster's (my brother's) "Antique Auto" 1978 Buick Electra Limited with a sledgehammer and send scouts to camp! This vehicle has a curb weight of 3.5 tons, so it should take all day for folks to crush it flat!

At noon they are selling the four tires to be slashed for $5 each.
They are selling each window to be smashed for $5 each.
After that it is 2 hits for $1 or 12 hits for $5.
All proceeds will be used to help send scouts of Troop 433 to summer camp (currently roughly $250 per scout for a week of camp).

Safety. All participants must have closed toed shoes and wear all safety equipment provided by Troop 433 to participate. All Participants under the age of 18 years old MUST be accompanied by at least one blood parent or legal guardian. All Participants MUST sign a Liability release waiver to participate. You participate at your own risk.

Many of you will be in Winslow for their festivities on the 4th, so why not help-out the scouts also!

Posted for my brother at his request.

moxie_man: Hope you didn't have reservations in Houlton this weekend!

Work related trip yesterday into today to Presque Isle. On the drive south, had to detour in Houlton because part of the Shiretown Motor Inn was burning to the ground.

Lots of thick smoke visible for several miles before you got to Houlton. When I got back around the detour and on US Route 1 again south of the motor inn complex, I could see it was the front building of the complex that had burned to the ground. Governor's Restaurant appeared to be untouched.
